Mixed Media on Canvas
Private Collection

Murwillumbah became a blaze with colour as Australia’s Premier Historic Car Event was celebrated throughout Tweed and Summerell created Contemporary paintings to be exhibited each year as part of the celebration. The completed paintings are ‘exciting, individual and capture action in still, they depict motor racing through art.’

Australian and International stars such as Frank Gardner, Ron Tauranac, Spencer Martin, Leo Geoghegan, John Goss and 3 generations of the Brabham family were present. Power & Passion entertainment highlights with Opera Queensland and Vivachi performing arias from opera and musicals such as Les Miserables, Carmen, My Fair Lady and La Boheme alongside Murwillumbah’s local Philharmonic Choir performed to celebrate 2005 Speed On Tweed.

Daily News ‘Art in the fast lane’ September 2005
‘ With vibrant red dominating the canvases and the symbolic chequered flag featured in the works they are sure to catch the eye of Speed on Tweed spectators…they have encapsulated the feel of the event in a bold and graphic style.’

Mahl Kella Review September 2005
'The simple angular shapes, sharp lines, refined car imagery, suggestive speed lines and chromatic limitations combine to provoke the essence of Speed on Tweed. They are powerful designs that provide visual tension, harmony and balance. The geometrical nature of the work and the underlying slant towards abstraction combined with the colour restraints of Black, White, Red and Silver, result in dynamic images epitomising Speed, Performance and Power.’
